WELCOME to gillian jackson photography

Photography literally means "writing with light" - the most sought after being gentle sunrise light, the dramatic light an hour before and after sunset and dramatic stormy skies.  It means being up early and it means waiting around for the clouds to dance around to reveal that perfect ray of sunshine to bring out the detail and contrast in a landscape.  Light is key.

The following galleries contain both color and black&white photographs and images that have been taken around the U.S. and the world. New galleries will be added regularly. The New Image gallery includes images taken in Prague, in the Czec Republic, Britanny in the west of France and California, where I  captured some striking late afternoon images in the Santa Monica Hills, route 1 coast around Big Sur, and Alcatraz.

Last year was a long, cold and snowy winter in Boston but I think the images of Beacon Hill were worth the cold mornings I spent slithering up and down the cobbled streets!

2011 also saw a slight departure for me in that I created a series of more abstract images.  See what you think in the gallery ABSTRACT (coming shortly).

Any of the color images you see can be produced in black&white.

In many of the photographs you will find in the galleries I have tried to photograph small corners of life that, had they not been photographed, probably wouldn't otherwise be seen.

I hope that what I see is reflected in these galleries of color and black & white photographs and that you enjoy browsing them.
